UNDP and its partners promote dialogues to increase the participation of women and girls in the electoral processes

Under the motto "Awake, Without Women There is No Democracy", a workshop on "Women's Political Empowerment in Mozambique" is taking place today and tomorrow in Maputo, jointly organized by the Association for the Development and Empowerment of Women and Girls (ADER), the Association of Women in Legal Careers (AMMCJ), the Association for Mentoring Women in the Media (AMMM) and the League of NGOs in Mozambique (JOINT), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The central objective is to promote a space for dialogue to increase the participation of women and girls in electoral processes and raise awareness about their role in politics, with a view to producing recommendations for the Assembly of the Republic. Among the over 150 participants present, the opening ceremony was presided by the President of the Constitutional Court, the Ambassador of Norway, the Deputy Director of Canada, the UNDP Resident Representative a.i., and was attended by the President of the National Electoral Commission, Members of Parliament, representatives from various organizations and media.
The technical and financial support is provided by UNDP projects entitled "Strengthening Democracy and Electoral Processes in Mozambique electoral cycle 2022-2025", and "Accelerating the Ratification, Domestication and Implementation of African Union Treaties" which are being implemented in partnership with the Government and Civil Society Organizations and financial support from the Embassies of Norway, Canada, Spain, and Sweden in Mozambique.
