Patrick Haverman, Deputy Country Director of UNDP delivers remarks at the Forum

UNDP China participated in the Eighth Annual Meeting of China Society for Public Sector Reform (CSPSR) and the Forum on Urban Governance Systems, Mechanisms and Innovations, held in Chengdu on 17th May 2016.
The purpose of the Forum was to bring together government practitioners from different provinces, research institutes and think tanks to exchange ideas and thoughts on how to promote urban governance systems and mechanisms, improve the competency of the cities and provide the systematic endurance to urban-rural integrated development
The Forum was organized by CSPSR and Sichuan Provincial Commission Office for Public Sector Reform. Patrick Haverman, Deputy Country Director of UNDP China attended the event, along with Mr. Huang Wenping, President of China Society for Public Sector Reform, and Mr. Lei Shijie, and Director General of Sichuan Provincial Office for Public Sector Reform.
In the opening remarks, Patrick Haverman emphasized the importance of building good governance and responsive institutions for achieving the SDGs in new era and shared UNDP’s related research reports on inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities. He also confirmed UNDP’s commitment to working with the Chinese government in support of governance reform process of China.
Mr. Huang Wenping highlighted four key issues related to urban governance reform which include comprehensive administration and enforcement, administration reform of functional zones, further promotion of urban-rural integration, as well as targeted poverty reduction.
The forum also brought together scholars in public administration, and more than 40 participants from provincial and local commission offices/societies for public sector reforms.
