Gender Talks
November 22, 2023
Although some progress has been made in the area of gender equality in Montenegro, numerous challenges persist—particularly in light of current global crises that further deepen existing inequalities. For this reason, the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign represented an important opportunity to advance the gender equality agenda.
As part of this year’s campaign, UNDP organized a series of Gender Equality Talks, aimed at raising critical issues, identifying key barriers, and exploring concrete steps toward achieving equality.
The campaign events included:
November 24, at the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, the campaign was launched with a panel dedicated to investing in the prevention of gender-based violence. Watch the recording / More information
November 30, at the Museum and Gallery of Podgorica, a discussion was held on violence against women with disabilities, with a focus on structural barriers. Watch the recording / More information
December 5, in Kolašin, a significant milestone was marked – 80 years of the women’s movement in Montenegro, with a tribute to its pioneers. Watch the recording / More information
December 6, at the Parliament of Montenegro, a dialogue was held on the role of women in politics and the mechanisms for advancing gender equality. More information
A highlight of the campaign was the play "The Political History of Women of Montenegro", performed on December 5 at the Cultural Center in Kolašin and on December 6 at the Montenegrin National Theatre. Inspired by historical sources, the play offers a powerful and authentic portrayal of women's struggles for their rights throughout Montenegrin history.
Directed by Marija Perović, and starring Kristina Obradović, Jelena Đukić, and Milica Šćepanović, the play premiered in 2016 to mark 70 years since women gained the right to vote in Montenegro. Its recent performances once again left a strong impression on the audience, thanks to its educational and socially engaged character.
This year, we are marking the campaign in partnership with the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, the EU Delegation to Montenegro, and the Embassies of Austria and the Czech Republic, as well as in collaboration with numerous other partners who have supported this year's Gender Equality Talks.
