Support NBSAP Update and the 7th National Reports
Background
National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) are crucial for tackling biodiversity loss and promoting sustainable development. Following the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), countries must update their NBSAPs to align with global targets to halt biodiversity loss by 2030 and achieve the 2050 vision of "Living in Harmony with Nature." As the main tool for implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and GBF, NBSAPs will be reviewed in the 7th National Reports, due by February 2026, to assess progress and commitments. The Umbrella Programme supports these updates and report preparations, building on the GEF Early Action Support project and other funding initiatives. This initiative fosters multi-stakeholder collaboration, engaging civil society, the private sector, academia, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities to ensure effective integration and implementation.
Objectives
The project aims to assist countries in updating their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to align with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and prepare their 7th National Reports under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This ensures effective implementation of the CBD and GBF at the national level.
