Background

UNDP’s Climate Promise initiative has been supporting countries in their development of Long-term low-emission development strategies (LT-LEDS) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) enhancement across the globe, including responding to the NDC Partnership’s latest thematic support offering. To date, Climate Promise has supported the updating of 111 more ambitious NDCs and 19 LTLEDS worldwide. UNDP’s Climate Promise is supporting Mongolia in the development process of the LTLEDS and NDC enhancement that should be aligned with the country’s long-term development policy, “Vision-2050”. UNDP is taking the lead to support on Mongolia’s NDC stocktake exercise for the NDC enhancement and support the LT-LEDS development. The Paris Agreement points out that it is necessary for countries to prepare LT-LEDS that carry through to mid-century or 2050 and submit them to the Secretariat of the UNFCCC. Mongolia announced to be carbon neutral by 2050, which will require an inclusive and gender-responsive strategy.
