Strengthening Systems Approach for SDGs In Mongolia (SASiM)

Background

Mongolia has made notable progress on several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in poverty reduction and quality education, with moderate advancements in gender equality, health, decent work, and clean energy. However, the country faces challenges in areas such as ending hunger, developing sustainable cities and infrastructure, addressing climate action, preserving life on land, and strengthening peace and institutions. Currently ranked 106th out of 165 countries in SDG progress, Mongolia remains committed to accelerating its Vision 2050 strategy and achieving the Agenda 2030 goals.

Objectives

This Project seeks to accelerate SDG progress by enhancing the capacity of national stakeholders to lead Vision 2050 and SDG initiatives through a systems-based approach. It will also introduce innovative mechanisms to encourage private sector participation. By promoting systems thinking in policymaking and implementing innovative financing tools, the Project aims to drive Mongolia’s Vision 2050 and accelerate SDGs achievement.

Expected Results

  • Output 1: Structural transformation accelerated, particularly green, inclusive, and digital transition
  • Output 2: No one left behind, centering on equitable access to opportunities and a rights-based approach to human agency and human development.
  • Output 3: Resilience built to respond to systemic uncertainty and risk.
  • Output 4: By 2027, making and implementation of policies are more gender-responsive, participatory, coherent, evidence informed and aligned with the Goals; governance institutions at all levels are transparent and accountable; and people, especially marginalized groups, have access to justice and the rule of law for full realization of human rights.
