UNDP Launches Student Ambassador Programme in Mongolia to Empower Youth as Changemakers
April 16, 2025

Ulaanbaatar, 16 April 2025 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched its global Student Ambassador Programme in Mongolia, spotlighting youth as key partners in advancing sustainable development and local leadership.
The inaugural Mongolian cohort includes ten outstanding students selected from five leading universities: the National University of Mongolia, the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology, the University of the Humanities, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences.
Running from March to July 2025, the programme is active in more than 30 countries worldwide. It equips students with the tools to become development advocates by promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), raising awareness about international careers in development, and organizing outreach activities and campaigns on campus.

In her opening remarks, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia, Ms. Matilda Dimovska, emphasized the transformative power of youth in driving positive change: “Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and they are already shaping the world in profound ways. By launching the Student Ambassador Programme in Mongolia, we are investing in young minds who care about the planet, their communities, and the future. We are proud to welcome Mongolia’s first ambassadors into a global network of trailblazers who are standing up for sustainability, inclusion, and innovation.”
The programme offers students a unique opportunity to connect with a global community of changemakers, aspiring leaders and gain valuable skills and insights into international development.

Tsogzolmaa Shirnendavaa, a student at the National University of Mongolia and one of the newly appointed Ambassadors, shared her excitement: “Becoming a UNDP Student Ambassador is more than just a title. It’s a responsibility and a chance to give back. I want to use this platform to inspire other students to care about sustainability, gender equality, and climate action. It’s empowering to know that even as students, we can have a voice in global development.”
The programme is part of UNDP’s broader efforts to engage youth as partners in development and to promote career opportunities in the UN system. It also aligns with Mongolia’s national vision to invest in youth, digital innovation, and green development.
