UNDP and the Medicine and Medical Device Regulatory Agency of Mongolia Sign Agreement to Strengthen Access to Essential Medicines
April 10, 2026
Ulaanbaatar, 10 April 2026. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Medicine and Medical Device Regulatory Agency of Mongolia (MMRA) signed a Project Document and Financing Agreement for the implementation of the project “Procurement of Essential Medicines.”
The initiative aims to strengthen Mongolia’s pharmaceutical supply chain and ensure uninterrupted access to critical treatments, particularly for patients living with hemophilia. By applying internationally recognized procurement and quality assurance standards, within timeframe of three years, the project will help reduce supply risks and improve the consistent availability of essential medicines nationwide.
“This partnership supports our efforts to improve how essential medicines are sourced and overseen in Mongolia. By working with UNDP, we are applying internationally recognized procurement and quality assurance practices to help ensure continuity of supply for critical treatments.” said Altantsetseg Purvee, Director of Medicine and Medical Device Regulatory Agency of Mongolia.
“This agreement translates global capacity into tangible health outcomes for people in Mongolia. Through this collaboration, UNDP brings its expertise to help reinforce transparency, quality, and accountability in access to medicines, in support of national health priorities.” said Matilda Dimovska, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia.
The signing builds on the Memorandum of Understanding between UNDP Mongolia and the Ministry of Health, signed in February 2026, which provides an overarching framework for cooperation in strengthening the pharmaceutical sector and improving access to essential medicines. Within this framework, MMRA serves as the technical counterpart for the implementation of the project.
The project contributes to Mongolia’s national health objectives and Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing by improving access to essential medicines and reinforcing institutional capacity in the health sector.
