Ulaanbaatar Hosts Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue to Accelerate Clean Energy Transition
November 25, 2025
Ulaanbaatar, 25 November 2025 – The Municipality of Ulaanbaatar, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mongolia, convened a multi-stakeholder dialogue on “Clean Energy Transition in Ulaanbaatar” to discuss pathways toward clean energy in the city.
Ulaanbaatar faces persistent challenges such as air pollution, energy poverty, and climate vulnerability. Heating and electricity are heavily reliant on coal and vehicle emissions continue to rise. At the same time, Mongolia’s abundant solar and wind resources offer significant opportunities for change.
The “Clean Energy Transition in Ulaanbaatar” dialogue brought together nearly 100 participants from government, academia, development partners, civil society, and local communities to share insights and explore opportunities to scale up promising clean energy initiatives.
Ms. Sejidmaa B., Social Policy Advisor to the Mayor of the Capital City, stated “Looking ahead, we will increase the number of households connected to renewable energy heating solutions and deepen partnerships to accelerate Ulaanbaatar's clean energy transition.”

Ms. Matilda Dimovska, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia, emphasized the urgency of collective action for a just energy transition, stating “Today’s gathering reflects our shared determination to accelerate Mongolia’s clean energy transition – a priority that demands innovation, collaboration and inclusivity. It must happen in a way that is fair, inclusive, and people centered, leaving no one behind.”
