February 2, 2025

Ulaanbaatar, 3 February 2025 –The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Communications and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mongolia has launched a strategic initiative to accelerate Mongolia’s National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Vision and Strategy. This collaboration aims to harness AI for sustainable development and ensure that its benefits are accessible to all citizens.
AI is no longer just a technological advancement, but a powerful force reshaping how businesses operate, people interact, and societies function at large globally. Mongolia has made notable progress in AI governance and digitalization. However, a clear national strategy is essential to fully leverage AI for economic growth and social development.
During the ceremony, His Excellency Baatarkhuu Tsend, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Communications stated, “Mongolia is engaging the government, private sector, youth, scientists from the Academy of Sciences, and university faculty to develop an artificial intelligence strategy that aligns with the country’s needs. We greatly appreciate UNDP’s insights on global trends and international expertise and look forward to ongoing collaboration to position Mongolia as a leader in this field. Our commitment extends to long-term cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of AI-driven initiatives.”
Under this initiative, Mongolia will undertake a comprehensive AI Landscape Assessment, explore future AI-driven scenarios, and develop a National AI Strategy and Vision. Additionally, the project will enhance cybersecurity awareness and build national capacity to harness AI effectively and responsibly.
"AI holds immense potential to drive innovation and economic growth, but it must be developed and deployed in a way that benefits everyone. UNDP is committed to supporting Mongolia in ensuring that digital transformation is inclusive, equitable, and leaves no one behind," said Ms. Matilda Dimovska, Resident Representative of UNDP in Mongolia.
By fostering AI-driven innovation and ensuring sustainable, inclusive growth, this partnership aligns with Mongolia’s Vision 2050 and its commitment to the SDGs.
