Effective Governance

UNDP has long been a trusted partner of the Government of Mongolia and the people of Mongolia providing substantial and vital development support to Mongolia for over five decades in broad number of areas through difficult development phases with emphasis on greater equality and equity; strengthened political and civic institutions; increased openness, accountability, transparency and integrity in public organizations, and strengthened local governance. Our current support and interventions for effective governance focus on:

Public financial management and employment promotion

Through our project funded by the European Union, UNDP is providing support to the Government of Mongolia to increase employment and promote decent work in Mongolia and ensure efficient, accountable and responsive delivery of public services in the Labour and Employment sector by supporting the modernisation of Mongolia’s Public Finance Management systems and strengthening institutional capacities.

Gender Equality in the decision-making level

Through our project funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency, UNDP is providing support to the Parliament of Mongolia and the Government of Mongolia to increase gender equality in decision-making by implementing a range of activities including strengthening legal environment, strengthening support networks for women aspirant candidates, expanding the profile and number of women eligible for public decision-making, and improving gender awareness among voters, political parties, and the media.

Citizen-centred Civil Service

Through our project funded by the Government of Canada, UNDP is providing support to the Civil Service Council of Mongolia and Parliament of Mongolia to achieve its civil service reform priorities: ethical, independent, gender-balanced, professional, and citizen-centred civil service in Mongolia

Business and Human Rights

Through our projects funded by the European Union and the Government of Japan, UNDP is providing support to Mongolia on awareness raising, capacity building, and policy coherence in the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles, including through support to National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights as well as Human Rights Due Diligence in close collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission.

Anti-corruption mechanism

With a support from the UNDP Seoul Policy Center, UNDP launched a new initiative with the Independent Authority Against Corruption to strengthen Mongolia’s anti-corruption reporting mechanisms by leveraging power of technology and innovation together with UNDP Seoul Policy Centre and Republic of Korea's Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission which will improve the effectiveness and transparency of the anti-corruption reporting mechanism.
