Sustainable socio-economic recovery

After the Beirut blast tragedy on August 4, we responded urgently to help mitigate the impact of the huge explosion through a framework that maintains socio-economic support for those that where hardly hit by the explosion focusing on the most vulnerable.

Through the strong support of our partners, we were able to provide socio-economic support on different levels especially in the area of Karantina that sustained the highest level of damage in terms of human losses and physical destruction, with a considerable damage in the public hospital leaving the residents of Karantina with no access to healthcare.


Lebanon’s manifold crises requested an immediate intervention that helps in the mitigation of its risks on people. We helped in restoring and repairing damaged buildings, including historical buildings, and residential houses, we also supported small businesses through renovation, in addition to the physical reconstruction we ensured that our response is people-centered in aim of rebuilding better.

This socio-economic response framework consisted of:

  • Rehabilitation of 161 households 
  • Rehabilitation of 2 historical buildings
  • Providing support to families through the provision of 410 food parcels/baskets  
  • Psychosocial support to 60 households
  • Generation of short-term job opportunities for 324 workers during a period of 7,264 worker days
  • Rehabilitation and provision of equipment to 64 damaged shops 
  • Distribution of cash assistance to 83 SMEs
  • Establishment of a rehabilitation center at the Karantina hospital that included provision of physiotherapy services, equipping the center with more than 2,500 item and 36,000 free Covid-19 PCR tests
  • Provision of immediate and urgent support for 1,800 persons with disabilities 
  • Raised 21,069 USD through a crowdfunding campaign to secure the needs PwDs
  • Support to 43 micro and small enterprises affected by the Beirut Blast, 20 of which are women-led, positively impacting 300 employees and their familie. The support includes group and one on one coaching, as well as cash grants of up to USD 7,000 to purchase equipment or stock, expand their social media/e-commerce presence, or for other expenses based on their needs.
  • Supply and Installation of three Vigan 120 Hoppers for Beirut Port Silos, in order to elevate the Vigan in order to empty the vessels safely and properly to the trucks in a more efficient and hygienic manner, without spilling grains on the ground.
