An open meeting of the private sector of Kyrgyzstan on green entrepreneurship was held. The event was attended by more than 100 active entrepreneurs, representatives of government agencies, international organizations and financial institutions, including Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Torobaev and Chairman of the Board of the "JIA Business Association" Zhoodar Omoshov.

The main topic of the meeting was green building and the promotion of green development principles in the construction sector.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Torobaev in his welcoming speech emphasized that Kyrgyzstan has been paying special attention to environmental construction and green entrepreneurship in recent years: “Green construction is a new development concept. New processes for the use, operation and management of buildings need to be introduced. As part of supporting green initiatives, the president Sadyr Zhaparov signed a new law “On Renewable Energy Sources” on June 30 this year. According to the law, a 15-year grace period is established for renewable energy projects and the purchase of electricity for renewable energy sources is guaranteed.”

Participants discussed the prospects for the development of green building and barriers to green investment in the construction sector. Enabling environments and conditions are needed to promote and support green entrepreneurship, which is the driving force for transformational change towards a low-carbon economy, such as incorporating ESG principles, taking climate action into account, including energy efficiency and resource conservation, and using alternative energy sources throughout construction processes.

In addition, the turbulence in world markets and the crisis period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have faced us with significant challenges to the sustainable development of the private sector and the state as a whole. Taking into account these factors, the organizers of the forum call on all interested parties to unite for the development of green entrepreneurship and sustainable construction, which can serve as a unique solution to attract long-term and unsecured financial resources, as well as advanced green technological solutions, which will ensure the accelerated growth of the country's economy.

The open meeting of the private sector of Kyrgyzstan on green entrepreneurship was organized by the "JIA Business Association" with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, the GIZ program "Green Economy and Sustainable Private Sector Development " and the UNDP regional project “The Policy Action for Climate Security in Central Asia”, funded by the UK Government.
