The research on labor market in the tourism and health or wellness sectors

April 3, 2023

The research studies the labor market in the tourism and health or wellness sectors and is based on data collected in 14 municipalities of five regions across Georgia (Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Guria, Imereti, Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti).

Commissioned by the European Union and UNDP, the study was carried out by the research organization "ACT" in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Agency for Skills.

Key findings:

  • Georgian employers name the low qualifications and insufficient motivation of job seekers among the reasons hindering employment.
  • The majority of the employers, 88 percent, do not cooperate with vocational schools, and 31 percent do not even see the advantages of such a partnership.
  • Only 24 percent of employers have experience in cooperation with professional educational institutions, which is mostly manifested in the provision of internships and practical training for students.
  • Regardless of slight differences, in all regions, the most in-demand vocations are in the professional groups of service and sales personnel and technicians and assisting specialists.
  • The most in-demand personnel in the tourism sector are cooks (34%), waiters (20%), and hotel service personnel (15%).
