New lighting in the local community Priječani enables a safer environment for elementary students

UNDP and the City Administration of Banja Luka jointly implemented a significant project in the local community of Priječani, which has just over 2300 inhabitants. The project involves the reconstruction of 1500 meters of lighting in this community, with 60 LED lighting fixtures and accompanying equipment installed. Improving infrastructure conditions and installing new LED lighting has significantly contributed to the safety of pedestrians and other traffic participants, especially schoolchildren. Additionally, LED technology is a more economical version of lighting that contributes to environmental preservation. This project is also in line with the Banja Luka City Development Strategy 2018-2027 and strategic goal 3: Ecologically sustainable, communally equipped, energy-efficient, and safe environment - Green City.

“On behalf of the Community Council and the citizens of Priječani, I express gratitude to the LC project, Switzerland and Sweden, and the City Administration of Banja Luka, who were the main drivers of this significant project for our settlement. The collaboration with the LC project and the city of Banja Luka was at the highest level during the project's implementation. The city representatives and the LC project showed understanding for all infrastructural and communal problems we presented. Our effort has paid off, and today we have a safer, more energy-efficient, and more beautiful settlement. With joint effort, a significant step in the development of the settlement was made. In Priječani, we have many children, each year enrolling an increasing number of first-graders. The most important users of this project are certainly school-age children who do not have built sidewalks on their way to school, so the lighting will be of great benefit.”
