A three-day workshop brought together students from across Bosnia and Herzegovina to contribute to the development of NDC 3.0.
Youth Engaged in Shaping Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Climate Future
June 8, 2026
Students from Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla and Mostar gathered for a three-day workshop dedicated to climate change and the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), a key strategic document that will define the country’s climate goals and measures for the coming decade.
Over the course of three days, participants took part in lectures, discussions and practical exercises, gaining insights into climate change challenges, the NDC 3.0 development process, and the roles of institutions, experts and citizens in planning and implementing climate measures. For many students, the workshop provided an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with real-world decision-making processes, exchange experiences with peers from different cities, and gain a better understanding of how climate policies affect various sectors of society.
A special focus of the workshop was placed on the role of young people in shaping climate policies. As the generation that will live with the long-term consequences of decisions made today, young people bring an important perspective that should be reflected in climate planning and development processes.
In addition to acquiring new knowledge, participants had the opportunity to build networks and develop ideas for future initiatives aimed at advancing climate action within their local communities.
The development of NDC 3.0 marks an important step on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards a more climate-resilient and sustainable society. By actively engaging young people in this process, climate policies can better reflect the diverse perspectives, needs and expectations of future generations.
The workshop once again demonstrated that young people across Bosnia and Herzegovina have the interest, knowledge and commitment to contribute to addressing climate challenges and to serve as active partners in building a more sustainable future.
The workshop was organized as part of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Project, “Strengthening Climate Action of Bosnia and Herzegovina through NDC 3.0 Development and Environmental Information System Operationalization,” implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
