"Films for Future"

The best reel was made by Saša Kravec and Kerim Destanović from Sarajevo and is titled Today-Tomorrow. The creative jury also awarded reels by Aleksa Vuksanović from Budva (Nature Protection), Sara Tiro from Sarajevo (Can We Sell The Sky?), Lazar Jovanović from Smederevo (Code Red), and Anja Gašanović from Pale (There Is Only One Earth).
The awards for the best reels were provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The winners received an electric scooter, a bicycle, an underwater camera, a tablet, and an eco-backpack.
“As the programmer of the youth films, I know how important it is for the Festival to educate new generations of filmmakers, both through its film selection and accompanying programmes such as this one. Calls like this bring together a new generation of regional voices, while also highlighting the importance of environmental issues and creative expression,”
said Isidora Ratković, programmer of the Children’s Programme and TeenArena of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
Dobrica Veselinović, a member of the Green Club, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in addressing climate change. “After a summer like this one, it is clear that the consequences of climate change are real, and that we can only respond to them if we work together and look ahead,” Veselinović said, stressing that engaging and raising awareness among young people is crucial for the future, which is precisely what this programme aims to do.
“It is a pleasure to be here and witness the outcome of the cooperation between the Green Club and the Sarajevo Film Festival. Back when we established this partnership, we could not have imagined how important it would become in raising awareness among such young people,”
said Jasmin Emrić, a member of the Green Club, expressing hope that the cooperation with the Festival will continue in the future.

UNDP Resident Representative Renaud Meyer emphasized the importance of involving young people in discussions on environmental protection, as well as enabling their engagement with decision-makers.
“I believe three things are important. The first and most important one is giving young people a voice. The second is raising awareness that we are the ones endangering nature and that we must take preventive measures. The third is dialogue between those who hold political power, such as my colleagues present here, and young people,” Meyer said.
Partners in the Films for Future project are: Sarajevo UNESCO City of Film, the United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP), and the Green Club—a network of representatives and members of parliaments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Inspired by the global youth movement Fridays for Future, the project aims to encourage young people to reflect on and take action on environmental protection and sustainable development through creativity and film.
