Gender Responsive Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation in Bhutan

March 18, 2019

The Royal Government of Bhutan and United Nations Development Programme Bhutan signed the project Gender Responsive Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation in Bhutan on 4th January 2019.

This project builds on the Royal Government of Bhutan and UNDPs extensive foundational work that supports low-carbon development.

The project reiterates Bhutan’s commitment to remain carbon neutral and will support the Royal Government of Bhutan to achieve transformational change by using Nationally Determined Contribution implementation through an inclusive and gender responsive approach to address barriers to risk-informed, climate-friendly investments and a diversified green energy mix that will deliver a carbon-neutral development framework

The project will also create an enabling environment to work with SMEs, youth and women groups and explore  opportunities to develop a business case to leverage  private sector investment in delivering the NDC targets

Bhutan is among 25 countries participating in this global programme. A two and half year project (Jan 2019-June2021) with a budget support of USD .805 mil, and  funded by the EU, Govt of Spain, Government of Germany and in partnership with UNDP Bhutan.
