Facing to challenges of climate change, pollution, and resource depletion, the government of Viet Nam has showed strong commitment to support the transition of development models towards a green, circular, sustainable, and inclusive economy. The definition of CE was integrated in the draft Socio-Economic Development Strategy (2021-2030), the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 (Article 142), and the Decree No. 08/2022 guiding the implementation of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020, comprising of criteria, roadmap and incentive mechanism to accelerate circular economy. The Master Plan on Development of CE in Viet Nam was issued in June 2022. The National Action Plan on CE implementation is under development, and it will be issued in 2023.

Viet Nam Circular Economy Hub, an initiative of UNDP and MONRE to accelerate circular economy, was successfully launched last year. The mission of the CE Hub is anchored around three pillars: enhancing dialogue, generating know-how, and mobilizing collective action towards the circular economy transition.

Dear colleagues,

In Viet Nam, Small and Medium Enterprises account for 96% of the total number of companies, employing 47% of labor and contributing 36% for the national value added . The business sector plays a key role in accelerating the transition, application and operation of circular business models, low-carbon technologies, and clean technologies.

Under the CE Hub, to strengthen capacity of business for circular economy transition, we have organized the 1st Circular Economy Training Program for businesses, including 2 TOTs and 2 CE Training for businesses, for total 152 participants and 52 businesses, respectively.

To continue this movement, it is our great pleasure to conduct the 2nd course “Circular Economy Capacity Building Program” was organized since July 2022, in collaboration with the Dutch Embassy, Saxion University of Applied Sciences and national partners.

Within this program, for the first time, a practical tool for development of circular business models will be introduced, to support enterprises to design their circular business model and CE workplan. Moreover, CE technical guideline and online lectures on topics related to CE and business models, are under finalization, to provide instruments, tools, and knowledge to address challenges during the circular journey of enterprise. Further advisory, opportunities for technology transfer, connecting businesses are also provides as post training supports to businesses.

Warmly welcome to this online Training on tools for development of circular business model! I believe the circular economy tools introduced today will contribute significant supports for the enterprises to identity their own circular model with potential elements. We are very much looking forward for potential CE Action Plan, CE showcase at business level, and also partnership among businesses which adopted from the CE the training program.

Last but not least, we would like to express our thankfulness to Professor Timber Haaker and the great team of experts from Saxion University, who bring great CE lecturers and tools to Vietnamese businesses and experts.

I wish you all good health, happiness, and success.
