Training Materials on Equity and Inclusion for Enhancing Access to Eye Care Services in Viet Nam
Training Materials on Equity and Inclusion for Enhancing Access to Eye Care Services in Viet Nam
April 24, 2025
This is the first training manual specifically designed for healthcare workers and community collaborators, aiming to equip them with essential knowledge about the barriers faced by vulnerable groups, such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, women, and ethnic minorities, in accessing eye care services at the community level.
The manual offers foundational understanding and practical training content, and solutions to promote genuine equality in access to these services. With an inclusive approach, it places vulnerable groups at the center of all interventions and community eye care programs. Highly practical, the manual is tailored to support the daily work of healthcare staff and collaborators. A two-day training course accompanies the manual, guiding participants through the evolution of eye care programs and inspiring them to adopt more equitable approaches.
The training is learner-centered, using adult learning principles through interactive methods like role plays, discussions, and hands-on exercises. The sessions explore key skills for supporting vulnerable patients and creating inclusive health centers. The manual is also the result of a collaborative process involving experts from The Fred Hollows Foundation, UNDP Viet Nam, and other dedicated contributors. This partnership has ensured the manual is both practical and relevant. It is a valuable resource for anyone committed to driving meaningful change in community eye care for all, especially the most disadvantaged.
