Promoting innovative decarbonization solutions
December 27, 2025
Uzbekistan, highly vulnerable to climate change, faces increasing disruptions to electricity and heating services from extreme weather. To accelerate a resilient, low‑carbon energy transition and meet its Paris Agreement commitment (35% GHG/GDP reduction by 2030 vs 2010), UNDP is supporting a new project piloting decarbonization solutions in public buildings.
Key interventions: operationalizing Article 6 cooperation (Joint Crediting Mechanism with Japan) by establishing project approval, MRV and ITMO authorization systems to mobilize investment and technology transfer; implementing six demand‑side energy‑efficiency pilots in Mirabad and Syrdarya (building insulation, energy‑efficient windows, heat pumps, high‑efficiency HVAC, and an air‑pollution/GHG monitoring station linked to an e‑bus corridor); and strengthening institutional capacity through training on just transition principles for ~40 stakeholders. UNDP documents technical, financial, social, environmental and gender impacts and consolidates lessons into recommendations to scale up equitable, climate‑friendly energy solutions nationwide.
