Towards Green Recovery

Project Summary:

The initiation plan will contribute to deepening strategic engagement on green recovery. It will lead to substantive policy dialogues with several Government institutions and enhancing cross-sector, holistic and integrated policy work, while co-designing pathways for a green recovery.

The initiation plan will facilitate the process of green recovery is an opportunity to undertake wider reaching and fundamental restructuring of critical sectors of economy in Uzbekistan. It will also demonstrate the benefits of mainstreaming gender-sensitive green growth in the COVID-19 recovery efforts. The overall objective of the plan is to provide catalytic investments promoting low-carbon business models and green solutions for a job-rich economic post-pandemic recovery through support for an enabling environment and policy and regulatory framework stimulating green recovery measures at national and sub-national level, that are also long-term, and go beyond the specific recovery programmes announced; and by capitalizing on this, UNDP will pilot a model of integrated green and inclusive local economic development at sub-national level, in two regions with very different development settings.

Expected results:

Output 1: Enabling environment created for advancing gender-responsive policy and regulatory framework for inclusive and green recovery at national, regional and local level, and

Output 2: Models of smart and green integrated local development piloted in selected areas of Fergana Valley and Karakalpakstan.
