Young people in Bukhara discussed the linkage between climate change and gender equality

On December 5, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) together with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and the Center for Hydrometeorological Service (Uzhydromet) of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized а seminar-training on the "The link between gender and climate change”. This training was held within the joint project "National Adaptation Plan” (NAP), aimed at sectors of the economy and regions most vulnerable to climate change, to promote medium- and long-term planning of adaptation measures and actions in Uzbekistan.

The project was conducted by a training seminar with the participation of the Bukhara Regional Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection, Bukhara State University, Bukhara Institute of Natural Resources Management at the National Research University "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers", and Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute.

The objectives of the training are to increase students' understanding of gender equality and inequality; increase their awareness on the gender aspects of climate change and adaptation to climate change; consider the challenges and barriers women face in climate change and how to adapt to them; link climate change to gender-based violence and increase students’ literacy about gender-based violence; and discuss climate change and vulnerability in the region and identify gaps from a gender perspective.
