Updated version of register now includes verified data on almost 16,500 types of medicines
Ukrainian Health Ministry updates medicinal products register
June 10, 2025
Kyiv, 10 June 2025 – The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has updated the State Register of Medicines, bringing it into line with European Union standards. The updated version of the register includes information on almost 16,500 medicines, which was analysed and checked before being migrated into the new register.
The register, among other things, contains information on medicines, pharmaceutical ingredients, and also allows data exchanges with other systems. This is one of the key tools used in the work of responsible bodies, such as the Ministry of Health, the State Expert Centre, the State Medical Service, and others, and is also available to citizens. Therefore, it plays an important role in ensuring the safety and high quality of medicines in Ukraine.
Updating the register will help to bring it into line with EU requirements for information systems in the field of healthcare and prepare the way for the mutual international recognition of electronic prescriptions.
The creation of the new register functionality and the migration of data from the old one were carried out by the Ministry of Health with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, with funding from the governments of Germany and Sweden.
The analysis and checking of the registry data, and its subsequent entry into the new version, was necessary due to there being significant technological differences between the old and new registry systems, said Mariia Karchevych, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for Digital Development.
“Ensuring transparency and efficiency in the sphere of circulation of medicines in Ukraine is an important priority,” Karchevych said. “The implementation of the updated version of the registry of medicines is an important step in this direction.”
Previously, UNDP, with the support of partners, helped the Ministry of Health implement two more information systems – ones related to medical devices. Updating these systems will boost the efficiency of management in the circulation of medicines and medical devices in Ukraine, said UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Ukraine Christophoros Politis.
“Digital transformation in healthcare is fundamental to building stronger, more responsive systems," Politis said. "This modernised registry represents our commitment to supporting Ukraine's healthcare sector with solutions that enhance transparency, improve efficiency, and ultimately deliver better health outcomes for citizens across the country.”
