UNDP held stakeholder engagement events within the project “Response to COVID-19 in Turkmenistan” in Mary province

Mary, 05 July 2022: Within the framework of implementation of “Response to COVID-19 in Turkmenistan” project, funded by the loan from the World Bank on July 05, 2022, stakeholder engagement event was held in Mary velayat.

The event aimed at familiarizing project stakeholders with the project goals and activities and holding consultations to receive feedback to ensure a successful project implementation, informing about COVID-19/SARI infection prevention, promotion of personal hygiene, conveying clarification messages regarding the transmission of acute respiratory diseases including “Dos and Don’ts” etc. The event was attended by the representatives of the Mary velayat Trade Union, Youth Organization named after Magtymguly, family doctors and nurses, lab specialists, virologists, epidemiologists, specialists on disinfection etc. from velayat (province) and etrap (district) levels.

Participants stressed out the importance of the stakeholder engagement and information disclosure within the “Response to COVID-19 in Turkmenistan” project so that the feedback mechanism is established to ensure a quality project implementation. In this context, etrap level representatives were asked to disseminate the materials and information made available during this event at etrap and community levels so that all interested parties including vulnerable groups are covered extensively.

The meeting participants briefly discussed the Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) and Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) recently made available for public. These documents serve as main instruments in identification, assessment and management of environmental and social risks.

Finally, the presenter introduced Grievance Redress Mechanisms where affected person or parties can air their complaints, put forward their recommendations and raise concerns etc. 

After the wrap up of the presentation a number of questions were received from the audience and satisfactory responses given.

It is worth mentioning that this event is among series of stakeholder engagement activities, which have been kicked off on June 14, 2022, by the organization of a training on Environmental and Social Commitments inherent in the COVID-19 response project and stakeholder engagement events held in Ashgabat and Akhal velayat (province).
