July 6, 2022
Ashgabat, 22-23 June 2022: Within the framework of implementation of “Response to COVID-19 in Turkmenistan” project, funded by the loan from the World Bank stakeholder engagement event was held in the premises of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Turkmenistan on June 22, 2022. Second event was held on June 23, 2022 at the Hospital of infectious diseases of the Akhal velayat (province).
The events aimed at familiarizing project stakeholders with the project goals and activities and holding consultations to receive feedback and to ensure a successful project implementation, gathered the medical workers who will be on the forefront of response to acute infections in Turkmenistan, including epidemiologists, virologists, specialists on disinfection, lab specialists and the representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan.
Participants noted fruitful and sustainable cooperation between MoHMI and UNDP on strengthening healthcare system of the country. Furthermore, they stressed out the importance of the stakeholder engagement and information disclosure within the “Response to COVID-19 in Turkmenistan” project so that the feedback mechanism is established to ensure a quality project implementation.
The meeting participants briefly discussed the Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) and Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) recently made available for public. ESMF serves as a fundamental instrument in identification, assessment and management of environmental and social risks. SEP is aimed at stakeholder engagement and information disclosure that is believed to forge ownership and two-way communication between diverse stakeholders and especially vulnerable groups affected by the project activities.
It is worth mentioning that these two events are among series of stakeholder engagement activities, which have been kicked off on June 14, 2022 by the organization of a training on Environmental and Social Commitments inherent in the COVID-19 response project. Moreover, it is planned to gather other stakeholders such as civil society organizations including vulnerable groups during the upcoming months.
