Dili, 13/04/2023 – The National Elections Commission (CNE) launched the Digital Tabulation Platform for the Parliamentary Election 2023 with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Covid-Resilient Elections in Timor-Leste (CORE-TL) project funded by the Government of Japan.

On April 13, the Digital Tabulation Platform for the National Parliamentary Election 2023 was launched at CNE Office in Dili. The launching event was attended by Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan to Timor-Leste Ms. YAMADA Kazumi, President of CNE, Mr. Jose Pereira Belo, and UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Munkhtuya Altangerel.

The Digital Tabulation Platform was established to improve the Electoral Management Bodies’ digital capacity and information sharing. It enables them to deliver election information efficiently and effectively during the election; it is expected to provide fair and accurate information to more than 10,000 citizens through the digital platform. They can have quick access to digital tabulation and voting results once CNE receives municipal or regional act and data from STAE. Also, the public can send a claim or inquiry directly to CNE through the digital platform, and the automatic calculator for seat distribution will facilitate user accessibility.

“Digital Tabulation Platform is an innovative and essential system that guarantees transparency of the electoral process and facilitates public engagement. We appreciate the continuous support from the Government of Japan and UNDP.” Said President of CNE, Mr. Jose Pereira Belo.

“Now, with the CNE digital tabulation system, a higher degree of transparency will be realized at CNE tabulation level. Anyone with access to the internet will be able to see the status of work of tabulation as well as its result” explained Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan to Timor-Leste Ms. YAMADA Kazumi.

Finally, “CNE’s digital platform enables citizens to access the official electoral information. It contributes to democratic governance in Timor-Leste. It is important that the official electoral management body, CNE, has a fundamental source of electoral information for all citizens. It ensures the transparency of the electoral process” emphasized UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Munkhtuya Altangerel.

In cooperation with STAE, CNE and the Government of Japan, the UNDP CORE-TL project ensures informed, inclusive, and democratic elections.
