Official launch of the Tanzania SDG Investor Map

UNDP Tanzania

We are excited to announce the launch of the Tanzania SDG Investor Map, a groundbreaking market intelligence tool that identifies investment opportunities in five key sectors: food and agriculture, renewable resources and alternative energy, infrastructure, education, and services. Developed in partnership with the Government of Tanzania through the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade (MIIT), the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), and co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Tanzania SDG Investment Forum aimed to facilitate dialogues between investors and enterprises/projects within the Investment Opportunity Areas (IOAs) identified by the Map.

The event, officiated by Hon. Dr. Stergomena Tax, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the Government of Tanzania, reflected on the theme "Invest in Tanzania’s Sustainable Future." The forum included a special pitching session from the Growth Stage Impact Ventures (GSIV) programme five finalists and TIC projects aligned with the Tanzania SDG Investor Map. Additionally, there were fascinating discussions with key stakeholders on the investment landscape in Tanzania and the potential it presents to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Third National Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III).

The finalists are:

1. Chanzi: Reducing Tanzania's organic waste while providing an affordable source of animal protein to livestock

2. Ensol: Meeting the demand for reliable and clean energy through renewable energy solutions

3. Smartcore: Making secondary and vocational education accessible to all

4. Kilimo Fresh: Leveraging mobile technology to give farmers fair an stable prices and direct access to markets for their crops

5. YES Group: Empower rural smallholder farmers in the production, value addition and marketing of their agricultural products

The Tanzania SDG Investment Forum brought together investors, enterprises, and projects within the IOAs for productive discussions on the investment landscape in Tanzania. The Growth Stage Impact Ventures (GSIV) programme finalists and Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) projects also had a chance to pitch their products to potential investors, in alignment with the Tanzania SDG Investor Map.

Hon. Dr. Stergomena Tax, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, representing the Prime Minister, emphasized that, “the UN Development Assistance Plan (UNDAP II) is grounded in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and prioritizes the needs of the most vulnerable communities. The UN and the Government of Tanzania are working closely to design and implement programs, policies, and innovative strategies to reach marginalized populations, with the ultimate aim of promoting equitable development gains across all regions and population groups. This concerted effort is aimed at contributing to the achievement of key SDGs that will have a positive impact on the people of Tanzania.”

As UNDP Resident Representative Christine Musisi emphasised during the event, "We are responding to the identified needs of impact investors and delivering market intelligence aligned with the SDGs by providing and showcasing market opportunities for investors seeking to make not only a profit but also an impact." Through the Tanzania SDG Investor Map, we are collaborating with the government to accelerate investment into Tanzania and achieve both national and global goals.

In line with the theme of investing in Tanzania’s sustainable future, UNDP is proud to announce that we expect to launch SDG Investor Map for Zanzibar. This map will identify specific IOAs and map business models on the island to enable sustainable development and economic growth. Together, we can unlock Tanzania's sustainable future.
