UNDP in Tajikistan lights the country office orange to support Action Against Violence

November 26, 2020

UNDP marked the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence on November 25 by lighting the country office in Tajikistan orange.

The campaign is to honor those around the world, who have made immense contribution to make this world an equal, safer and more respectful place for women, yet to recognize that there is still much to be done to eliminate gender based violence till 2030, a goal set by UN General Secretary’s UNiTE campaign.

In her support for the cause, UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan Dr. Pratibha Mehta has focused on creating opportunities and tools for women and girls to reach gender equality and equity.

“Violence against women is one of the most widespread, persistent violation of Human Rights in our world today and requires all women and men at home, at workplaces, on the streets to stand up and speak out against violence, injustice and abuse. This campaign is also a reminder that without creating opportunities, without empowering women, we cannot end violence against women and girls,” she said.
