Legal Framework
In October 1993, the Government of Tajikistan and UNDP signed the Standard Basic Assistance Agreement, which contains the basic conditions under which UNDP assists the Government in carrying out development projects and how they are carried out. Thereupon, UNDP’s country office in Tajikistan opened in 1994. UNDP prepares a multi-year Country Programme that is approved by its Executive Board in New York, which frames its work in Tajikistan.
The current Country Programme (2023-2026), approved by the Executive Board, focuses on three interlinked programmatic areas: i) strengthening integrated management of natural resources, mitigating climate risks and adaptation to climate change; ii) promoting public service delivery and rule of law; and iii) promoting sustainable and inclusive growth.
