CCM Suriname Strengthens Governance and Oversight During Orientation Week
February 20, 2026
The Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Suriname organized an intensive Orientation Week from 16 to 20 February 2026, aimed at strengthening governance, oversight, and the strategic positioning of the platform.
The CCM is a multi-stakeholder platform, facilitated by the UNDP, and plays a central role in the coordination, monitoring, and strategic oversight of HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria programs in Suriname funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Over the course of five days, CCM members, committee members, and the Secretariat participated in in-depth sessions covering the structure and core principles of the CCM, oversight of grant implementation (HIV and malaria), constituency engagement and bidirectional communication with key populations, as well as collaboration with the Principal Recipients (PRs), who serve as the implementing partners of the grants.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare serves as the main implementing partner for both the HIV and malaria grants. The Project Management Units of both grants were also invited to deliver presentations on the scope of the grants, progress in implementation, and key challenges encountered.
This capacity-strengthening initiative enhances the CCM’s ability to ensure that the current grants achieve maximum impact, with the objective of eliminating or significantly reducing HIV, TB, and malaria in Suriname. Strengthened collaboration with implementing partners further contributes to reinforcing national health systems.
A key strength of the CCM lies in its multisectoral composition. Representatives from government, civil society, the private sector, multilateral partners, and key populations collectively hold a seat at the table. This inclusive structure promotes transparent decision-making and enables effective monitoring and support of grant implementation to achieve agreed targets.
The Orientation Week also provided space for strategic alignment between the CCM, grant implementers, and other stakeholders.
Through this Orientation Week, CCM Suriname reaffirms its commitment to professional governance, strong oversight, and sustainable impact in the fight against HIV, TB, and malaria in Suriname
