Public Disclosure Notice: Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP)- Upgrade of Sierra Leone Police Infrastructure Project

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sierra Leone, in partnership with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), is preparing to implement the “Support for the Transition of the Sierra Leone Police to a Police Service” Project. The project seeks to strengthen the institutional, operational, and professional capacity of the Sierra Leone Police to deliver accountable, effective, and community-oriented policing services.
Key project activities include :
- Refurbishment of the Police Training School in Hastings;
- Refurbishment of the Police Garment Factory;
- Operationalization of the Model Police Station concept;
- Support for the enactment of the Police Service Bill (2025);
- Review of training curricula and enhancement of in-service training programmes;
- Strengthening of the SLP Radio communication system;
- Improvement of gender responsiveness within the Sierra Leone Police; and
- Enhancement of community policing initiatives.
In accordance with the UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES), an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) has been prepared to ensure that the project is implemented in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner.
UNDP Sierra Leone invites all interested stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society organizations, local communities, and members of the public, to review the ESMP and provide comments for consideration prior to the commencement of project activities.
