The Office for IT and eGovernment, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has presented an interactive map of the AI ecosystem of the Republic of Serbia, which brings together in one place all key actors shaping the development of artificial intelligence in Serbia and their initiatives.

Unified Data from Multiple Sources

The map consolidates data from several relevant sources, including information from the Digital Serbia Initiative on domestic AI startups, data on AI projects supported by the Science Fund and the Innovation Fund, as well as data on AI and innovation ecosystem actors collected by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

All this information has been further classified and tagged across a wide range of parameters—from types of organizations and projects, to technologies, industries, and geographic areas—and interconnected. This enables users to easily search, filter, and analyze the domestic AI ecosystem from different perspectives, or to explore one of the 20 predefined views of Serbia’s AI landscape.

Strategic Importance of AI for Serbia’s Development

Speaking about the significance of creating the AI Ecosystem Map of Serbia, the Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Dr Mihailo Jovanović, emphasized that this represents another step in the continuous development of artificial intelligence in the country.

“The Government of the Republic of Serbia has clearly demonstrated its commitment to the development and application of artificial intelligence by adopting the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy for the period 2025–2030 and the Ethical Guidelines for its trustworthy development and use. Mapping the AI ecosystem further strengthens this foundation, as it enables better coordination of all actors—from state institutions and scientific organizations to startups and the private sector—thus laying the groundwork for accelerated technological and societal progress,” Jovanović highlighted.

An Invitation to the Community to Contribute

Although comprehensive, the map represents an initial pilot version that will be continuously updated and improved. Serbia’s AI ecosystem is rapidly evolving, and the authors emphasize the importance of community feedback.

“Although the map was originally created for the internal planning needs of UNDP and the Office for IT and eGovernment in the field of AI use in the public sector, we believed it could have broader value. That is why we decided to publish it not only as an interactive visualization, but also to make the complete dataset behind it openly available,” said Slobodan Marković, Digital Technology Advisor at UNDP.

He invited local researchers, companies, and organizations to use the map, test its capabilities, and send suggestions so it can continue to develop as a shared community resource and support the planning of new AI initiatives.
