UNDP Rome Centre Hosts the Final Event of Open Africa Power 2025

November 21, 2025

Rome,Italy, 21 November 2025 - UNDP Rome Centre hosted the Final Event of Open Africa Power 2025, an educational initiative by Enel Foundation and co-managed with SEforALL . The event marked the conclusion of the programme’s residential module, which brought together 80 young professionals from 25 African countries, one-third of whom come from nations engaged in Italy’s Mattei Plan. Since its launch in 2018, Open Africa Power has trained nearly 600 participants from 38 countries, fostering a new generation of leaders committed to advancing Africa’s energy transition. Its core objective is to foster and train young professionals in the energy sector—both in public institutions and the private sphere, through high-level academic collaboration between African and Italian universities.

This year’s ceremony also underscored the strategic role of UNDP Rome Centre in promoting sustainable development, innovation, and capacity-building across Africa. With a strong focus on gender inclusion and human capital development, the programme contributes directly to the Mattei Plan’s priorities on energy access and strengthened partnerships. By serving as the programmatic bridge between Italy and UNDP, the Rome Centre actively anchors initiatives such as Open Africa Power, reinforcing their impact through knowledge transfer, clean-energy collaboration, and the training of future African energy leaders.

The event gathered institutional representatives, partners, and academic leaders. These discussions explored the evolving landscape of Africa’s power systems, focusing on energy finance, regulation, and technological innovation.

The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certificates to the programme’s top performers, recognising their achievements and their potential to drive sustainable energy access and climate-resilient development across the continent. A networking session closed the day, offering space for exchange, collaboration, and new partnerships.

About Open Africa Power

Open Africa Power is an initiative launched in 2018 by Enel Foundation and co-managed with SEforALL. The programme aims to equip a new generation of African professionals with the technical, regulatory, and economic knowledge needed to transform the electricity sector. Working with academic partners in Italy, Africa, and beyond, it combines online learning, in-person modules, technical site visits, and a strong “give back” component, enabling participants to mentor younger students and strengthen local capacities.
