Baku, 10 June 2021 - Seventeen young Azerbaijanis have been selected as the country’s youth ambassadors for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Their names were officially announced at a ceremonial launch held today in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov, UNDP Resident Representative Alessandro Fracassetti, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev and Member of Parliament Mazahir Afandiyev.
Over the next two years, the 17 Youth Ambassadors will work on a voluntary basis to help spread the work about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting these goals on mass media, holding training sessions and presentations in various institutions, participating in regional, national and international events and other relevant activities.
Announcing the appointments, Deputy Minister Ahmadov emphasised the valuable role the ambassadors will play as torchbearers for the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. UNDP’s Fracassetti reiterated this message, adding that “Today’s youth are our best hope for a better tomorrow.”

The Youth Ambassadors initiative is part of a joint project for “Creating new platforms to support active youth engagement in global policy debates”. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UNDP with the aim of supporting greater youth participation in decision-making.
