Agricultural insurance can help farmers manage climate risks, protect livelihoods, and strengthen resilience. However, its availability often remains fragmented, short-term, or disconnected from the wider agricultural and financial systems. In India, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) — the world's largest crop insurance scheme, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India with technical support of UNDP India protects over 41 million farmers across 62 million hectares of farmland.
