Agreement on strengthening the Clinical Laboratory Services in Turkmenistan in 2026–2027
The project “Agreement on strengthening the Clinical Laboratory Services in Turkmenistan in 2026–2027” is aimed at enhancing the capacity of national healthcare system to provide rapid, reliable and high-quality laboratory diagnostic services, increasing the availability and accessibility of lab services for all population groups, at all levels of healthcare, across Turkmenistan. The total budget of the project is 22,05 mln USD.
This project is built on successful implementation of the first laboratory project, funded by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, and implemented by UNDP during 2023-2025. It included the modernization and support of 121 clinical laboratories across the country, training of 357 laboratory specialists, updating and development of laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), provision of essential lab reagents and consumables for stable operation of the clinical laboratories.
Specifically, the newly signed project includes:
Modernization of additional laboratories with new laboratory equipment;
Procurement of reagents and consumables, for testing more than 85 clinical parameters;
Activities aimed at quality assurance of lab services;
Capacity building trainings for lab specialists.
It is expected that the project will make a significant contribution to the SDG-3 goals, Universal health coverage. In the long term it will have a positive impact on overall National healthcare system by improving the timely diagnostic of diseases, enhancing the quality of treatment, preventing severe complications of diseases, establishing stable monitoring of the patient health close to their living area, which is critically important for vulnerable groups and people living in remote areas.
