The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) handed over 33 laptops and a camera to the National Agency for Religious Affairs and Interethnic Relations under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic (NARAI), as well as to Public Consultative Councils (PCCs) on social cohesion and civic integration within district state administrations and city mayor offices.
The equipment handover took place during a meeting between UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic, Alexandra Solovieva, and the newly appointed Chair of NARAI, Talantbek Tashibekov. The initiative aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of key state and public bodies working in social cohesion.
For several years, UNDP has closely collaborated with state institutions, local self-governments, and civil society organizations to promote social cohesion, interethnic harmony, and mechanisms to reinforce social unity.
This support is provided in the context of implementing the national priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic in the areas of social cohesion, interethnic harmony, and civic identity (“Kyrgyz Jarany”), as well as within the framework of the Kyrgyz Republic’s National Development Programme until 2030.
"Today, social cohesion is becoming increasingly important. Trust, solidarity, and a culture of dialogue are key factors for sustainable development. It is important to recognize the positive results of UNDP’s close cooperation with state institutions, including efforts to strengthen elements of the peacebuilding system in multiethnic regions and cities across the country. In this context, UNDP’s role as a key partner of the Kyrgyz Republic in developing civic identity and promoting interreligious tolerance remains especially significant," said Talantbek Tashibekov, Chair of the National Agency for Religious Affairs and Interethnic Relations under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The equipment will be used to improve the efficiency of coordination, communication, monitoring, and reporting at regional and local levels, which is critical for sustaining results in social cohesion.
"UNDP consistently supports the Kyrgyz Republic’s efforts to strengthen social cohesion, public dialogue, and trust. The handover of this equipment is part of broader support for implementing national priorities, including the ‘Kyrgyz Zharany’ concept, where effective interaction between the state, local communities, and civil society plays a central role," emphasized Alexandra Solovieva, UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The handover is part of UNDP’s comprehensive approach to strengthening institutional resilience and ensuring the long-term impact of ongoing initiatives. During the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of continuing strategic engagement within the national social cohesion agenda. UNDP reaffirmed its readiness to continue cooperation with NARAI on inclusive governance, building public trust, and strengthening social cohesion in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The equipment transfer was carried out under the UN Peacebuilding Fund project, “Strengthening National Capacity for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding: Meaningful Civic Engagement to Build Trust and Social Cohesion.”
