Gender Responsive and Transformative Best Practices

October 15, 2025

This brief delves into the characteristics of gender responsive and transformative actions and offers practical examples of initiatives and activities being implemented in Lebanon. These examples are categorized under five best practices that could be replicated or adopted. Gender responsive and transformative approaches both aim to contribute to gender equality, and require organizational commitment, dedicated resources, staff capacity and gender expertise, as well as an openness to testing out innovative methods. At the core of both of these approaches is the response to distinct gendered needs and experiences, across sectors; before, during and after emergencies. The best practices include: leveraging gender as an interagency and cross-sectoral priority; supporting and working with women’s rights and women-led organizations and grassroots groups; adopting inclusive and intersectional approaches; challenging gender roles and social norms and practices; and engaging community members, including men and boys, while centering women’s agency and leadership.
