NEW YORK - The government of Finland has contributed EUR 1 million in flexible core resources to UNDP for 2025. The support from Finland enables UNDP to accelerate sustainable development efforts and respond swiftly to reach the communities most in need.

Flexible core resources are especially critical in times of complex and protracted crises, allowing UNDP to respond quickly and strategically where needs are greatest. In Ukraine, core funding has enabled UNDP to support the government’s resilience and recovery efforts while delivering essential services to the most vulnerable. The availability of these resources has ensured a swift response in a highly volatile environment, allowing UNDP to deliver support that is relevant, efficient, impactful and sustainable.

To deliver on its mandate, UNDP relies primarily on voluntary contributions from UN Member States. Unrestricted, flexible financing from Finland and other partners allows UNDP to operate in 170 countries, playing a central role in supporting national efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNDP looks forward to strengthening the partnership with Finland to advance joint priorities, including the empowerment of women and girls, strengthening inclusive governance, the rule of law and digitalization, accelerating effective climate action, and mobilizing additional investments for sustainable development.

UNDP greatly values the partnership with Finland and looks forward to a continued close collaboration in building a more equitable and prosperous world - where no one is left behind.

About UNDP’s Core Resources:

UNDP relies on contributions from UN Member States, multilateral organizations, NGOs, corporations, financing institutions, and philanthropic partners. Regular “core” resources are the most flexible type of funding UNDP receives. They make possible long-term development strategies, rapid crisis response, and targeted support for emerging challenges by filling resource gaps in underfunded areas - helping deliver impact where and when it is needed most.
