“For me, environment isn’t just an interest. It’s a way of life. I believe that change starts when each of us takes responsibility for our own neighborhood, own street, own future,” she says.

From leading local eco-trainings to launching youth volunteer initiatives, Omurkan inspires others to sort waste, reduce water and energy consumption, and protect local ecosystems. She sees her efforts as part of something bigger, contributing to Kyrgyzstan’s national climate goals under NDC 3.0, the country’s updated commitment to the Paris Agreement.

Her vision is bold yet rooted in everyday action: a Kyrgyzstan where green spaces flourish, air is clean, and sustainable habits are the norm. Where waste becomes a resource. Where climate action starts at home  and scales nationally.

By empowering youth, promoting environmental education, and leading by example, Omurkan reminds us of that NDC 3.0 is not just a document, it’s a movement, powered by people like her.

She was one of many young people who participated in the Youth Climate Caravan 2025, a nationwide initiative that brought together youth from all seven regions of the Kyrgyz Republic. Through workshops, discussions, and community dialogues, the Caravan strengthened climate literacy and collected youth-led recommendations for the country’s new Nationally Determined Contribution NDC 3.0, the official roadmap for climate action in Kyrgyzstan.

The NDC 3.0 update is led by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision to advance its national climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. The initiative is part of Kyrgyzstan’s broader efforts UNDP supports the country in both the development and implementation of these commitments under the Climate Promise, ensuring inclusive, ambitious, and actionable climate action that reflects the priorities of all, especially youth.
