Call for Applications: "Training of Young Actors on Combating Hate Speech and Fake News and Launching Media Campaigns"  

Background:  

The United Nations Development Programme – UNDP with funds from Germany through KFW Development Bank are working to raise awareness on the negative impact of fake news and hate speech at national and local level in Lebanon.  

With a commitment to peacebuilding, the UNDP aims to equip a new generation of aspiring journalists and media students with the skills to identify and combat fake news and hate speech through intensive training programs. By doing so, they will empower these individuals to make meaningful contributions to the cause, both individually and collectively, while also spearheading media campaigns within their communities.

Those who show interest in these training programs will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in the Sawab initiative. Launched by the UNDP in Lebanon, Sawab is a youth-led fact-checking platform accessible via WhatsApp and various social media channels. This innovative platform provides a space for news verification, ensuring the dissemination of accurate information

If you have a genuine passion for making a positive impact on society and reducing conflict and tensions, this is an incredible opportunity for you to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to combat and verify fake news.

Eligibility:  

We are inviting aspiring individuals, aged between 20 and 29 years old, who are students or graduates from media faculties or related fields across various regions in Lebanon, to apply.  

By joining this program, you will learn invaluable techniques and strategies to effectively fight against the proliferation of misinformation. Moreover, you will become equipped with the ability to verify news sources, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of information shared.  

Applicants are required to demonstrate a strong commitment to actively participate in the training sessions and engage in the promotion of media campaigns within their communities. These campaigns are specifically designed to raise awareness regarding the subject matter, namely the detrimental effects of fake news and hate speech, with the ultimate goal of fostering social stability.
