NEW YORK, 15 July 2026 - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of the Republic of Korea jointly launched Phase II of the Relief, Employment and Vital Infrastructure for the Vulnerable in Emergencies (R.E.V.I.V.E.) initiative today. The USD 50 million programme will help approximately 3.8 million people rebuild their lives across Afghanistan, the State of Palestine (Gaza), Myanmar, Sudan, South Sudan and Syria. Additional countries will be included to support early recovery in new or emerging crisis contexts.

Building on the success of Phase I, the expanded initiative will restore critical infrastructure and essential services, create emergency employment, revive livelihoods and local economies, and strengthen local institutions to lead recovery.

Around the world, crises are becoming longer, more frequent and more complex. Humanitarian funding continues to fall far short of needs, making investment in early recovery more important than ever.

"Communities cannot rebuild their futures on emergency assistance alone," said Shoko Noda, Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Crisis Bureau. "Recovery must begin as early as possible. This means restoring livelihoods, rebuilding essential services, and helping local economies restart before crisis becomes entrenched, and ultimately reducing dependence on humanitarian assistance."

Between July 2025 and June 2026, R.E.V.I.V.E. Phase I was implemented to clear more than 719,000 tonnes of debris, rehabilitate over 10,000 community infrastructure assets, provide improved shelter for more than 52,000 people, expand access to essential services for over 508,000 people, and support improved livelihoods for more than 73,000 people. R.E.V.I.V.E. Phase II builds on the achievements of Phase I while expanding into Sudan and South Sudan for the first time. Across all six countries, the programme will connect infrastructure rehabilitation with emergency employment, livelihood restoration and community-led recovery planning.
