UNDP Administrator, Achim Steiner, met with H.E. Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan

The Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Achim Steiner, met this morning with H.E. Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan.

Administrator Steiner conveyed his heartfelt condolences for the tragic demise of former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo and expressed his utmost gratitude for Japan’s long-standing and generous support to UNDP.

The discussions focused on UNDP’s and Japan’s common priorities including human security and the upcoming Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8). Administrator Steiner and Prime Minister Kishida reaffirmed their commitment to support African development as the continent suffers from compounding threats of climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the war in Ukraine.

Administrator Steiner commended Japan’s human-centered development approach,   emphasizing UNDP’s steadfast co-operation and collaboration with Japan, in the lead up to TICAD8.
