A laundry in Ungheni uses biodegradable detergents and less water thanks to the modern equipment bought with EU support

Cristina Scutaru and her family are running a successful business in Ungheni city.

12 years ago, she set up Unfloria, a company specialised in the ecological washing and cleaning of garments. Seven years ago, the carpet cleaning unit was opened.

As a result of growing demand, the company decided to open a new carpet cleaning line.

Thanks to the “EU4Moldova: Focal Regions” programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF, the company benefited from financial support worth €30,000 to purchase high-performance equipment.

Service quality, productivity and automation of the work processes were enhanced thanks to the investment. Cleaning carpets using high pressure pumps was replaced by an automatic washing machine. Water consumption was reduced by 15% per square meters.

Carpet washing speed and cleaned surface increased: from 150 square meters per day to 400 square meters per day. Now biodegradable detergents are used.

Since the launch of the business until now, the number of employees has increased from two people to 48, working in five main units. The Scutarus are planning to re-equip the knitwear washing unit and reduce production costs.

The "EU4Moldova: Focal Regions" programme (2019-2024) supports smart, inclusive, and sustainable socio-economic development in Cahul and Ungheni regions, in order to ensure a better quality of life for citizens. The programme has a total budget of €23 million. It is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
