Grants of up to US$150,000 for environmental and climate projects offered by the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility

The Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility, implemented by UNDP Moldova, is launching a new call for project proposals for civil society organizations interested in contributing to addressing environmental and climate challenges.

The initiative supports projects implemented on both banks of the Nistru River, delivering tangible benefits to communities and contributing to environmental protection at the local level. Projects must be carried out in partnership with stakeholders from the implementation area and ensure co financing of at least 50 percent of the total project cost.

The programme provides grants for the implementation of initiatives in the following areas:

  • Conservation of ecosystems and threatened species
  • Sustainable agriculture, fisheries and food security
  • Access to low carbon energy
  • Chemicals and waste management
  • Sustainable urban solutions
  • Community based adaptation
  • Dialogue between civil society organizations, Government and the private sector
  • Social inclusion
  • Knowledge management and results management, monitoring and evaluation

The total budget of the call is $900,000. Organizations may apply for standard grants of up to $75,000 or strategic grants of up to $150,000. Project implementation may last up to 18 months.

The Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility has been implemented globally by UNDP since 1992 and supports initiatives of civil society organizations in areas such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, waste management and the protection of natural resources. In the Republic of Moldova, the programme contributes to the development of sustainable local solutions, strengthens partnerships and promotes social inclusion, supporting communities to address environmental challenges and create opportunities for sustainable development.
