The Consultative-Diagnostic Center of the Ministry of Defense was equipped with a hyperbaric chamber and modern diagnostic equipment. The equipment, worth US$68,000, was purchased by the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova from the funds provided by the Ministry of Defense.

"The purchase of medical equipment with the support of the United Nations Development Programme contributed considerably to the modernisation of the medical infrastructure in accordance with international standards in the field. This equipment is a much-needed help for doctors in the provision of quality medical assistance, both for military and civilian patients," says Colonel Andrei Marfin, Doctor, Head of the Consultative-Diagnostic Center of the Ministry of Defense.

The hyperbaric chamber offers the possibility of applying a non-invasive method of treatment for acute infections and post-infection recovery, including post-COVID. The installation allows optimal oxygenation at the patient's lung and cellular level, thus ensuring the reconstruction of damaged blood vessels or tissues and even internal organs. At the same time, the treatment carried out in the hyperbaric chamber triggers the growth of collagen, which facilitates the healing and restoration of the body. Oxygen therapy also helps the body create new white blood cells, which are needed to fight infection and bacteria.

The hyperbaric chamber can be used to treat diabetic foot ulcers as well as osteomyelitis. Oxygen therapy is also used in case of carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression accidents, and thermal burns.

The hyperbaric chamber is also useful for patients who have suffered from certain types of cancer and who have undergone radiation treatments, as well as for people with radiation necrosis, whose tissues are damaged because of excessive exposure to ionising radiation.

The Consultative-Diagnostic Center of the Ministry of Defense was also equipped with a modern medical centrifuge, which is used for complex laboratory investigations, as well as with two hot air sterilizers of different capacities and with a water distiller.

During 2019-2021, UNDP procured for the Ministry of Defense’s Consultative-Diagnostic Center a digital X-ray machine and an orthopantomography device, as well as other medical equipment worth a total of $131,250.

The Consultative-Diagnostic Center provides qualified medical assistance and outpatient treatment to military personnel and their family members, civilian employees, former military personnel transferred to reserve, but also to other citizens who benefit from the right to medical assistance in the medical and sanitary institutions of the Ministry of Defense.

During 2018 and 2019, state-of-the-art equipment was procured through UNDP for the Central Military Clinical Hospital, namely: semi-digital X-ray machine, multifunctional surgery table, arthroscopic surgery full set, autoclave for sterilising the medical instruments, modern equipment for anesthesia, as well as other equipment in total value of $617,237.
