Tripoli, 24/July/2022 – Local Task Forces from Kikla, Bani Walid, Derna and Ghat presented their local development plans to the Ministry of Planning today. The local groups developed the plans with support from the Ministry of Planning and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the Stabilization Facility for Libya (SFL) with an inclusive and participatory approach to address the community’s needs and assist local authorities improving their resource management for sustainable development.

The years of conflict in the said municipalities resulted in destruction of infrastructure, displacement, and hardship to access to basic services and economic recession. Local authorities led interventions to overcome these obstacles including renovation works, providing equipment and small grant, among other activities, in coordination with the Ministry of Planning, through the EU Stability, Unity, and Social-Cohesion in Libya.

Today, the Task Forces, which consists of municipal authorities, service providers and civil society members, presented their schemes aimed at improving the lives of the community in their respective cities by improving basic services, creating economic opportunities, and improving the overall quality of life of the people.

Task force representatives, high officials from the Ministry of Planning and UNDP team attended the event that took place at the Ministry of Planning Headquarters.

During the event, The Head of International Cooperation Dr. Mohammed Abudena stated: "The continuous efforts by the municipalities to prepare these geographically diverse plans is critical. We expect these plans at the targeted municipalities will serve as a role model for other municipalities across Libya."

Through this activity, local community in Kikla, Bani Walid, Derna and Ghat, will have common understanding of the needs and priorities and planned responses the local authorities are planning to carry out over the next four years, thus strengthening trust between people and their leaders.
