Birds of Lebanon: A Photographic Guide to 409 Species
June 18, 2026
This second edition of Birds of Lebanon is a comprehensive photographic field guide documenting all 409 bird species recorded in Lebanon up to December 2025. Designed for both local and visiting birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, responsible hunters, and conservation practitioners, the guide provides practical support for identifying bird species observed across the country. Each species account includes key identification features, habitat preferences, seasonal occurrence, conservation and phenological status, size comparisons, and notes on locally relevant threats.
The guide is illustrated with high-quality photographs taken in Lebanon, primarily by Fouad Itani, and follows the latest taxonomy and nomenclature adopted by the Ornithological Society of the Middle East (OSME). In addition to serving as a field identification tool, the guidebook promotes greater awareness of Lebanon’s rich avian diversity and the importance of conserving the habitats that support migratory, resident, and globally threatened species. QR codes linked to bird calls and songs further enhance the user experience and support accurate species identification.
By fostering appreciation for birds and their ecological role, this publication contributes to biodiversity conservation efforts and encourages environmentally responsible engagement with nature, including the development of sustainable birdwatching ecotourism in Lebanon.
