Project Overview

The Tripoli Peace Initiative aims to strengthen social stability in Tripoli, North Lebanon—one of the country's poorest and most volatile regions. The project addresses the root causes of tension, such as economic competition, marginalization, and political-sectarian divides, through inclusive, youth- and women-led local development processes. By enabling local communities, municipalities, and institutions to work together, the initiative seeks to rebuild trust and promote civic engagement in areas heavily impacted by Lebanon's overlapping crises.

Project Objective

  • Strengthen inclusive local development by enabling civil society, particularly women and youth, to identify development priorities.
  • Establish youth-focused Mechanisms for Stability and Local Development (MSLD) to identify community priorities and conflict drivers.
  • Empower 120 youth (50% female) through the Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) to lead local peacebuilding initiatives.
  • Pilot a Co-Funding Mechanism (CFM) to mobilize diaspora contributions for community-prioritized infrastructure projects.
  • Improve social cohesion by reducing economic disparities and competition for low-skilled jobs through vocational and life-skills training for 450 youth.

GESI Component (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion)

The project is classified as GEN2, ensuring that gender equality is a core element of its design and implementation. It mandates a minimum of 50% female representation across all youth-led platforms and leadership training programs. Special emphasis is placed on capacitating young women to advocate for their priorities and assume leadership roles in municipal decision-making. Additionally, the project’s conflict-sensitive approach ensures that the specific safety and mobility needs of women and girls are addressed in all neighborhoods upgrading and community-led initiatives.
